Lazarillo de tormes / La vida del buscón llamado Don Pablos

Lazarillo de Tormes

There is a river called Río Tormes in Salamanca, Spain.

Although the author is anónimo, I have a feeling the autor could be "el judío converso" because it is criticizing the clergy and  make it picaresque (諷刺). To avoid punishment of Inquisition, the author made it anónimo...

This little boy Lazaro (Lazarillo) is losing his innocence while serving 7 different amos.
  • Chapter* 1: Ciego (blind man.
  • Chapter* 2: priest
  • Chapter* 3: Escudo
  • Chapter* 4: parde
  • Chapter* 5: pardoner.
  • Chapter* 6: chaplain.
  • Chapter* 7: serving a pardoner and an archpriest.

La vida del buscón llamado Don Pablos

autor : Francisco Gómez de Quevedo y Santibáñez Villegas (1580-1645)
publicado en 1626

Because I read this story in Japanese, I did not see Quevedo's conceptismo (lost in translation). I need to read in Spanish to see Quevedo's talent that even Luis Borges loved.

but as far as I read in Japanese,
even if back in those days it was ok to talk, act like this Don Pablo,
I did not care for this novel, because I found so many Jew-bashing racism comment, women-bashing sexism comment, etc.
I really would not like Quevedo as a person, who constantly attacked his counter part Luis de Gongora (culteralismo), so nagative about the world in his view...
